ALL THAT JAZZ (San Francisco)
All That Jazz! creates fully improvised, Broadway style musicals on the spot, based on an audience suggestion. Our stories are set in the great Jazz Era of the 1920s to 1950s, including costumes, jazz music, original improvised songs, and spur of the moment dance numbers!
The members of All That Jazz came together to perform in the Bay Area Theater Sports (BATS) Cavematch competition in 2013, and loved working together so much, that we formed an ongoing troupe. We love singing, dancing, and improvising! In addition, most of our troupe members also play instruments, and we often incorporate that into our shows! No two shows are ever alike, so you can always be assured of a fun story that is full of surprises. Come on out and join our guys and dolls as we tear up the stage--it's the CAT'S MEOW!

In 2012, The Creatures of Impulse teen improv program was awarded the California Park and Recreation Society’s “Creating Community Award of Excellence” in youth development, being recognized not only for providing an innovative means of connecting youth in the community, but for its work in cross-generational programming and youth-to-youth arts education. Along with performing five main stage shows each season at the Firehouse Arts Center, Creatures of Impulse has been the only troupe to represent The State of California at the Teen Comedy Festival four years in a row from 2010 to 2013 and is the youngest troupe to perform at the New York Musical Improv Festival to date.

OPERAVISED! (BAY AREA)
We are classically-trained singers/improvisers, performing long-form improvised operas in different styles (including classical, pop, rock, jazz), based on audience-suggestions, the whims of our accompanist, and each other's offers.
Why Operavised? "Opera" means different things to different people, but to us, it's musical-theater with the emphasis on the music. We avoid spoken dialog, instead using the traditional recitative/aria format, where the recit moves the story along and the catchy, melodic, arias highlight our characters' emotions. We learned this format by studying the classics: from Mozart to Puccini to Sondheim to Rent. We don't know which genre we'll sing until we're singing it, but once we start singing, we know we're at our best.
CAST: Katherine Ahern, Craig Caspian, Rebecca Castelli, Michael Fleming, Liz Garfinkle
FLASH MOB MUSICAL (San Francisco)
Did you know Flash Mob Musical (FMM) came together as a practice group after taking one musical improv class? We loved getting our feet wet with musical improv that much!
Based in San Francisco, Flash Mob Musical was formed in 2015. Under the direction of Angela Perez, we grew from our humble beginnings as a practice group into a musical montage performance team. In 2016, after a 5 week run at Thunderdome Cage Match with Endgames Improv, we were offered a regular bi-weekly show at StageWerx Theatre.
Flash Mob Musical uses an audience member's suggestion of a favorite song lyric to inspire a montage of scenes and songs made up entirely on the spot. There may be games. There may be call-backs. There may even be musical reprises, but absolutely no narrative!
CAST: Amalia Aquino, Shawn Brick, Dustin Clingman, Kate Dramstad, Aimee Lucido, James Liu, Olivia Puera, Rico Roque, Debra Schifrin, Mithra Vankipuram
